DISCOVERER 1Discoverer 1 satellite was the first of its series. On February 28, 1959 the Discoverer 1 was launched into space from Vandenburg Air Force Base situated at California. The satellite is launched into space through the Thor-Agena A. This space program was the part of Corona reconnaissance satellite program. The satellite was designed on the basis considering KH-1 as a prototype.The total weight of the payload in the satellite is about 18 kilograms. It was launched towards the South Pole region but it was unsuccessful. Most of the payload consists of communication and telemetry equipments. The primary goal of the space program is conduct a photographic surveillance on the Soviet Union’s production of long-range bombers and ballistic missiles and their storage areas. It is also used for creating maps and charts for the Department of Defense and government mapping programs. This information about the satellite is kept classified until 1995. After Discoverer 1 many satellites are launched in this series such as Discoverer 2, 3 etc with advanced features in it.
