Give The Gift Of Fast PDA Input!
Most of us know at least one person who gamely struggles at trying to use Graffiti 2 on his Palm OS device or Transcriber on her Pocket PC. They’ll sit there, PDA in hand, scowling at the screen while their input is misunderstood. Get them the gift they’ll appreciate this Christmas:
As you’ll recall, I published a review of this keyboard this spring. It truly IS universal; I was able to use mine with both my HP iPAQ 4150 and Palm Tungsten T3, and even set up my Nokia 3650 phone to work with it. If you’re going to be doing any writing on a handheld device or if you’re just looking for an easier way to enter SMS messages into your phone, the Think Outside Stowaway Universal Keyboard is the way to go. And with this new lower price, you can afford to buy yourself one as well! Remember, only 29 shopping days until Christmas!!
Only 30 More Shopping Days Until Christmas…
You only have 30 shopping days until Christmas! “Black Friday”, the biggest retail day of the year and the day after Thanksgiving, is coming up this week. You KNOW you don’t want to stand in checkout lines at your local computer store, so what do you do for a gift for that special someone?
Buy them a Lexar 1 GB Secure Digital Memory Card for only $78.99 from Amazon! This card can be used in any device that uses SD memory, so that new digital camera or PDA is going to be very happy when it gets this huge memory upgrade. Occasionally you’ll find a 1 GB SD card for less at a “brick and mortar” computer store, but they’re usually one-day sales with limited supplies. Buying here you can be assured of getting that gift in a few days (and you’re supporting PDAntic.com at the same time)!

Data Evolution To Introduce the Clio NXT(tm) Handheld Computer
If you wanted to get the attention of a techno-geek about five years ago, all you had to mention was the Vadem Clio. It was a Windows CE convertible handheld computer that could act as a small tablet or as a mini-laptop. The design was amazing, but the device never seemed to get off the ground.
Data Evolution of New Orleans, LA purchased the rights to the Clio and has been marketing the device as the Clio CT-1050. Now they’ve announced a next-generation model called the Clio NXT. It will utilize the award-winning design of the original Clio, but will also have features unheard of in 1999. 802.11 wireless will be built in and the new Clio will have a larger screen, a 400 MHz Intel XScale CPU, USB connectivity, multiple memory slots, audio in/out ports and MP3 player capabilities. Running Windows CE .NET 4.2 Professional as its OS, the NXT will have additional features announced shortly.
Data Evolution expects to start shipping the Clio NXT early next year and is currently working on a distribution network. It appears that they’ll also be having an end-user pre-release incentive program to drum up interest in the new device. You can find out more about the Clio NXT at www.dataevolution.com.
Press Release: Data Protector 1.2 Released
Keep your sensitive documents secure with password protection and 128-bit encryption!
Security is now the #1 issue facing organizations that deploy PDAs throughout their enterprise. Employees are carrying valuable documents, spreadsheets, and other files whose content represents time, money, a competitive advantage, a marketing strategy, or in some cases, national security. Preventing the compromise of proprietary company or government data becomes a tall order in the face of a 50% PDA Loss/Theft rate.
Your Pocket PC doesn’t have to be lost or stolen in order for the contents of the files you store on your device to become public knowledge. Today’s devices, and therefore their data, can be accessed via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, CDMA, GPRS, and Ethernet, not to mention ActiveSync. With so many open doorways leading to your data, now is the time to encrypt and password protect your private documents with Data Protector 1.2.
Version 1.2 includes full support for older Pocket PC 2000 and 2002 devices. Other updates include usability improvements, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. Best of all, it’s only $9.95 at Handango and Pocket Gear.

32 Shopping Days Until Christmas
I’ve always been a huge fan of Canon cameras, currently owning a Canon PowerShot S230 and a Canon Optura 300 MiniDV camcorder. The S230 is one of the Digital Elph series, a tiny camera that takes very excellent pictures. Well, they’ve outdone themselves by coming out with the new Canon PowerShot SD200, a 3.2 Megapixel camera that’s even lighter than the S230 with an even bigger viewfinder screen. With only 32 shopping days until Christmas, it’s the perfect time to buy one of these nice cameras for yourself or as a gift!
Here’s some info from the manufacturer:
The ultra-sleek, ultra-slim 3.2-megapixel PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph features a sophisticated design with superb resolution and a bold zoom. Stylishly streamlined yet impressively powerful, it has the resolution you need to create dazzling prints and on-screen images. And with a 3x optical and 3.2x digital zoom, for a 10x combined zoom, close-ups delightfully simple.
Shoot and play back in true comfort
The compact PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph gives you shooting comfort without compromise. A bold 2.0-inch LCD screen provides a clear view of your scene so framing and playing back images is pure joy.
Super slim yet remarkably powerful
Cutting-edge technology, including a UA lens for superior image quality, is yours in the PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph’s slim metal body. It’s the first in the PowerShot line to incorporate Canon’s new DIGIC II Image Processor. Designed to improve processing speed and image quality, the DIGIC II processor provides markedly faster camera startup, autofocus, and playback, plus it gives every image more colorful vibrancy.
Canon’s latest imaging technology enhances picture quality
The PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph is one of the first in the PowerShot line to incorporate Canon’s new DIGIC II Image Processor. Designed to improve processing speed and image quality, the DIGIC II processor provides markedly faster camera startup, autofocus, and playback, plus it assures that every image is more colorfully vibrant.
Selectable movie recording speeds
The PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph is one of the first digital cameras to let you shoot in a Fast Frame Rate Movie at 60 frames per second with full motion video (320×240), so you can capture fast-moving subjects. The camera also gives you the option of 30 frames per second (640×480) for general shooting. For e-mail attachments, select the compact movie setting.
Expand the creative ideas
The PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph lets you take as much or as little control as you like. Nine preset modes allow you to handle even tough shooting conditions with confidence, and new scene modes including Digital Macro Mode widen your shooting capabilities. Or you can select manual and do everything yourself.

WiFi Part II - 36 Shopping Days Until Christmas
As promised (threatened?) yesterday, today’s Christmas gift idea is a counterpart to yesterday’s. It’s a Netgear WG511 Wireless 802.11g PC Card for your notebook computer (if you don’t have a nice, sleek new Centrino laptop or PowerBook with 802.11g already built in).
This card, used in concert with a wireless router, can provide secure and very fast wireless networking. With Windows XP SP2 and Mac OS X “Panther”, you’ll have no problems getting your notebook to talk to your network and (if you’ve connected the router to the internet through a broadband connection) the rest of the world. And you can have the network all set up in time to send out those Christmas thank you emails!
Why Fi? Because There Are Only 37 Shopping Days Until Christmas!
Here’s another item that is HOT this holiday season. At the local electronics stores, there’s always a crowd around the wireless networking gear. Like I found out years ago when I bought a proprietary wireless network for my home computers, it’s a lot easier and much less messy than stringing CAT-5 Ethernet cable all over the house.
Today’s suggestion is the Linksys WRT54G Wireless G Router. Judging from the number of open, unencrypted networks I see when I’m driving around town with my Pocket PC running WiFiFoFum, Linksys WiFi gear is about the most popular around. I have one of these routers and it’s been flawless since the day I bought it. It’s easy to set up and it even puts up with the power outages that our local utility seems to inflict on us on a regular basis!
Tomorrow we’ll provide a link to an inexpensive 802.11g network card as another in our list of holiday gift ideas!
When iPods Are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Have iPods
From the “Stupid Rules” department:
An Associated Press article noted that Toronto Raptors player Vince Carter has been chastised by the NBA for listening to his iPod. Carter was in the habit of listening to music on his iPod during the pre-game 20 minute warmup period. The fact that he was wearing headphones while doing this is a violation of the NBA rules on “proper attire”. The league called the Raptors, who informed Carter that he could no longer listen to tunes to focus before a game…

You now have less than 40 shopping days to go until Christmas and you haven’t even begun to do your shopping??? I’m shocked and appalled! (Don’t worry, I haven’t bought a thing either!
