Press Release: Sudoku Mini
Sudoku Mini: Enjoy sudoku puzzles on your Pocket PC!
Kristanix Software has released Sudoku Mini, a PocketPC version of the puzzle game that started in Japan, and is sweeping the world. As millions of fans discover Sudoku, these puzzles are appearing in magazines, newspapers, and books across the globe. Sudoku Mini lets you create and solve Sudoku puzzles on your Windows Mobile PocketPC.
Sudoku Mini brings the fun, challenge, and strategy of Sudoku to your PDA. The program generates puzzles using the traditional 9-by-9 game board, as well as 4-by-4 and 6-by-6. You can choose five different difficulty levels, from very easy to very difficult. You can even type in the puzzles from your favorite newspaper or magazine, and solve them on your computer.
If you get stuck while trying to solve a puzzle, Sudoku Mini can give you hints, show you the contents of any box, or generate the complete solution for you. You can print your favorite puzzles, or save them as an image file.
Whether you`re an experienced Sudoku fan who wants a program to generate new and challenging puzzles, a Sudoku novice who wants a computer coach to help develop strategic puzzle-solving skills, or a puzzle enthusiast who wants to learn more about the addictive Sudoku phenomenon, Sudoku Mini will provide you with hours and hours of challenging fun.
Sudoku Mini runs under Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0 and later, costs $14.95(US), and may be purchased securely on http://www.kristanix.com/sudokumini/. You can download a free trial version from the same web site. If you were a fan of The Gizmo Ranch and PDAntic.com, fear not - I have moved a lot of the material from those sites over here to Movable Beast. Unfortunately, I’m missing a gap between November of 2004 and October of 2005. The items that were done with iWeb during the three months between July and October are also slowly coming over. Pictures associated with the site between October of 2005 and July of this year have disappeared. Sigh…
So, will I ever get everything over here? It’s doubtful. You’ll also see some confusion with categories until I get that all cleaned up. My hope is that eventually I can get all of the archives moved over here and we’ll have a nice history of gizmology over the years. In the meantime, enjoy yourself and look around the old material!
Using a hammer to remove a screw
OK, you’re probably wondering what the type of hardware you could buy at Home Depot has to do with IT. Well, I’m using this as an analogy to describe the common mistake that a lot of people tend to make - using the wrong tool, in terms of software, to do a job.
BlackBerry - What’s All The Fuss?
I’m currently doing some work that requires that I have a BlackBerry device, so I finally broke down and bought a BlackBerry 7290 (I think T-Mobile and Cingular are still selling them) on eBay. After working with it for a while, I’m wondering why people are so impressed with BlackBerrys.

PDAntic.com Archives Loaded!
One thing I absolutely love about WordPress, the blogging software that I’m using now for Movable Beast, is that over the years it has been fine-tuned to a state of excellence. Just when I think it’s perfect, someone comes out with a new feature and I like it even more!
I was really happy when I found out that I could import Blogger archives into WordPress. After some initial anxious moments when nothing seemed to be working right, I watched as WordPress gleefully swallowed about 4 years worth of PDAntic.com archives. All of those articles are now available for your reading pleasure, although some of the links may not work properly. At least you can read about what was going on a few years ago in the world of mobile devices.
I’m still trying to figure out how to take the last year’s worth of info and plug it into Movable Beast. As I get the old material moved to the new site, I’ll definitely let you readers know what’s going on. I’m also considering making a link to the REALLY old PDAntic.com archives - stuff from the late 1990s. That way you can really get a chuckle reading about what we considered “state of the art” just a few years ago.

A Headset Too Small
![]()
In the race to see who can make the smallest smartphone or accessory, mobile phone manufacturers may be going a bit too far. The Samsung WEP200 Bluetooth Headset is a good example of this unfortunate trend.
I got one of these diminutive headsets at Mobius 2006 Boston and immediately decided to try it. After a couple of weeks of trying to use this device, I’ve given up. Why? It’s just too damned small!

The Palm Treo 680 - Unlocked!
Like most Palm geeks, I received my email from Palm a few days ago talking about the new Palm Treo 680. This is basically an upgrade to the 650, featuring much more usable memory, a new design without the antenna “bump” of the 650, and including one nice feature we’ve all been asking for - it’s unlocked.
I’m a big fan of unlocked devices. It drives me absolutely bonkers to have to subscribe to one phone company or another to get a device. That’s why I’d love to see more phone manufacturers do what Palm just did and make it so you can just pop in a SIM and let ‘er rip.

Welcome to Movable Beast
My name’s Steve Sande. I’ve been around for a long, long time - I first started writing online when I brought the MAGIC BBS up in September of 1986 and I’ve run websites since 1994. Having edited PDAntic.com, PCPocket.com and The Gizmo Ranch in that time, I’ve had a lot of time to get to know people in the mobile technology space. If you’ve read any of the other sites, you know I have a lot of ideas and a lot of opinions.
So what’s different about Movable Beast? I want this to be more bloglike, so I’m getting away from the other tools I’ve used in the past and I’m standardizing on WordPress. I’ll be sending out podcasts on a more regular basis, and the site will allow comments to encourage discussion. To make comments, simply register - it’s free and it’s easy. I also plan on putting some personal content on this site just for fun.
If you have a mobile device like a Smartphone, just check out this site with your browser to see a special version that’s formatted just for handheld devices! The site is syndicated, so feel free to add it to your favorite newsreader or link to me from your site or blog. But most of all, I want readers to have fun here. If you have another topic category you’d like me to add, let me know and I’ll consider it.
What’s Movable Beast all about?
This blog is like my previous sites - all about technology in general and mobile technology in particular. I travel frequently, so you’re going to hear me talk about the pleasure and pain of using technology on the road. I’m also a geocaching geek, so I will have posts about geocaching. I’ll pass along information from the numerous companies I’m in contact with, and you’ll be sure to hear a lot about new gizmos as they are introduced.
If you’d like to comment on various posts, be sure to register so you can add your two cents worth!
